                                  USS Columbia just launched being assisted by tug TRITON and others.
Named for the city of Columbia, NC, she was authorized on May 17, 1938. Her buiding contract was placed with New York Ship
Building Corp. in Camden, NJ. The keel was layed on August 19, 1940 and on the 17th of December, 1941 she was launched.
